My Own 2024 Reflections...
Hey Loves.
It's gonna be a long one. TLDR: 2024 was A LOT. Thanks for being part of it.
As 2024 winds down, I’m pausing to reflect on this extraordinary year. It’s been a whirlwind of rapid growth, deep connections, and opportunities that stretched me in ways I could never have imagined just a few years ago.
The Year @ Joy Point Solutions
This year saw Joy Point Solutions sprint out of the gate with incredible momentum. Exhibiting at the International Conference on Physical Health, the National Nurse Wellbeing Conference, and the Institute of Coaching Conference left me inspired and grateful to be part of such vital conversations and communities. Truly. Each event reminded me that the work we do matters deeply, and I’m so honored to stand alongside others who are reimagining wholeness and leadership in healthcare.
I’m endlessly grateful for my collaborating coaches and colleagues —your brilliance and dedication make everything we do possible. And to every client, community member, and alumnus who has engaged with our offerings this year, thank you for your trust and enthusiasm. You are the very heartbeat of Joy Point Solutions.
We launched our first 12-month Leadership & Development Program in 2024 and ran five cohorts of the 12x12 program. Projects like 30 Days of Creative Wisdom, developed with the other JPS coaches, have been a testament to what’s possible when we dream about what's possible together. (Over 400 hours of coaching!)
Oh, and let’s not forget the September launch of the podcast, Solving for Joy! We’ve hit 20 episodes and over 1,500 downloads—a milestone that fills me with gratitude. Thank you for listening, sharing, and encouraging me to keep finding new ways to explore joy.
And if you really want to make my year, please consider rating and reviewing the podcast on your platform of choice.
Life as an entrepreneur is seldom uneventful, predictable, or 100% smooth, so I am also grateful for the resilience that has allowed me to keep adventuring despite the headwinds that arise from time to time.
Adventures and Inspiration
This year took me across the map, and every trip added something unique to my journey. Traveling to Costa Rica with Kathy Stepien for a Institute for Physician Wellness retreat was SO nourishing—a space to reconnect with myself, with nature, and the work I love.
In Chicago, I had the honor of speaking to clinicians at the University of Chicago about crafting personal mission statements, and I was also honored to speak at the Physician Coaching Summit in Tucson AZ.
Back home in Portland I've been part of a forming think tank of female healthcare leaders inspired to make a difference: "Restoring Hope in Healthcare" - more to come soon.
I delighted in my annual week-long silent retreat in Watsonville CA at Mt. Madonna Retreat Center with my teacher and Sangha.
And next month I'm headed to Denver to speak at a screening of "The M Factor" documentary with one of my podcast guests, Joy Rubey!
I am looking forward to partnering with a small number of healthcare teams as a retreat speaker/ facilitator in 2025; please reach out if I can support your people in this way.
Clinical Work
My ongoing clinical work as the Medical Director at the Center for Medically Fragile Children in Portland, Oregon, keeps my feet firmly planted in the day-to-day realities of caregiving and healing, and my gig as a newborn hospitalist continues to bring delight as I adore the newest humans and geek out over anticipatory guidance. (Ask me about the QR code link to a video I share with them all!)
And… I took my first foray into locums work! Spending time in a rural community reminded me of the pure joy of practicing the art of medicine while teaching eager learners. There’s something so grounding about going back to the basics and sharing the craft with those ready to absorb it.
Stepping Into Leadership
Perhaps the biggest professional honor of the year was being asked to take the helm for the 2025 Physician Coaching Summit. Planning is already underway, and I’m committed to making this a space where coaching continues to transform lives and careers in medicine and beyond.
Family and Gratitude
On the personal front, we have so much to celebrate. Su is thriving two years post-chemo for ovarian cancer, and our deeply feeling kiddo is finding her groove despite the ups and downs of 5th-grade social life. Watching them both navigate their worlds with courage and resilience has been my greatest joy. We are fortunate to still have my 92yo mom nearby and doing well against all odds and we are blessed with some of the finest humans on the planet as friends.
To everyone who’s even opened these emails a time or two... or reached out this year—thank you. Your encouragement has been fuel for my journey. I’m always learning and growing, and it matters so much to me when those efforts are seen and reflected back. A special shout-out to my incredible support team,
Kristin Staver-Reichard, Denise Crain, Kelsey Vaughn, Steph Sheldon and —I owe much of the goodness from this year to you. THANK YOU.
The Spark of ROAR
As the year draws to a close, I’ve been reflecting on how the work has shifted in light of the year’s events, especially the election season. That reflection catalyzed a new offering: ROAR. This program is my invitation to step into joyous rebellion - it's an unvarnished version of my voice as a teacher and coach and a step into greater authenticity ad playfulness. It’s a call for self-sovereign, articulate leaders in medicine who want to have their own backs, reject the stories of limitation we’ve been sold, and create powerful, lasting change - all while having a helluva good time doing it. Reach Out And Reply if you are ready for the growth and good trouble this program promises to bring as a tool for meaningful professional development.
As we move into 2025, I’m carrying forward every lesson, every connection, and every spark of joy this year has offered. My hope for you is the same—that you honor what you’ve reclaimed, step fully into what you’re owning, and boldly activate the vision you hold for your future.
Here’s to resilience, opportunity, authenticity, and reinvention—and to all of us continuing to ROAR.
